Oven Swiss Steak

These recipe is called Oven Swiss Steak. Do you see any white cheese in the picture. No because this poor lady forgot to add the cheese at the end. Things were kind of crazy with the kids when this dinner was being made. (I think this happens about every night here at our house, how about yours??)
I realized half way through the meal that I forgot to add the cheese. I am curious to see if it would have tasted a little different. Maybe next time....

Oven Swiss Steak

2 lbs. round steak cut into serving portions
4 tbls. flour
2 tbls. shortening
2 c. stewed tomatoes
1/2 c. celery, chopped
1/2 c. carrot, chopped
1/4 c. onion, chopped
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 c. grated Monterey Jack cheese

Pound meat with a meat mallet. In large skillet melt shortening then dip meat in flour and then put into skillet; set aside remaining flour to use later. Brown meat on each side. Place in shallow baking dish. Blend flour with drippings in skillet then add remaining ingredients, except cheese to skillet and mix. Stirring constantly until mixture boils. Pour over meat and cover. Bake for 2 1/2 hours at 300 degrees. Sprinkle with cheese over meat and return to oven for a few minutes until melted.

  1. mmmm... that looks good! Pretty simple too! I'm excited to try that! I think cheese makes everything delicious, but I've forgotten to add it to dishes before too. My kids are always the craziest when I'm trying to prepare dinner. I can totally empathize with you! But I'm guessing your family eats a lot better than mine.

I got the candy jars in the mail, and I. Love. Them.! Thanks so much! They're the perfect addition to my kitchen right now, filled with Christmas goodies. Thanks again!
